I had the pleasure to attend the Doula UK conference in London on May 7, 2014. It is hard to turn down the chance to be a part of a crowd of doulas and birth workers to talk about birth, share stories, learn, and enjoy each other’s company. There were wonderful speakers who I had felt privileged to have a chance to hear and it was great that the first three talks were given by doulas. It is such an amazing group of women to be a part of.
Here is a list of the speakers:
Naomi Kemeny — Postnatal Support; “Who” Cares?
Mia Scotland — The postnatal impact of birth trauma
Maddie McMahon — The politics of breastfeeding: Partnerships, Parameters, Taboos, and Peccadillos
Mark Harris — Helping men prepare to be fathers
Charlotte Russell — Bed sharing, SIDS, and safety
Julie Wray — Bouncing back: Women’s experiences of postnatal care and their own recovery
Sue Gerhardt — Love is not the icing on the cake: Why care in pregnancy and in the postnatal period matters to society
